The Diptychs 2007-2016

A selection of images from an exhibition at the Mullan Gallery in Belfast, 2008

…I began to play with diptychs. I saw Frederic Thurz paintings at the Hugh Lane Gallery in 2007; he was a German American minimalist painter.
They had quite a presence for me in their weighty layers of oil paint.
Reflexive painting that was popular then, where painting is at once the object and the subject…

A woman with blonde hair is lying on a blue velvet sofa, wearing high heels and a pink dress with black patterns. She is stretching her body with her legs extended and one arm resting on the floor, in a room with a yellow patterned carpet and a plain, light-colored wall.

Victoria, oil on canvases, 160x120cm, 2007

A painting of a woman in a black kimono lying on the floor with yellow flowers. There are children around her, and the background shows a wall with more flowers. The scene appears to be indoors.

Blossum, oil on canvases, 60x40cm, 2007

A landscape photograph of a group of trees with bare branches, set against a pale sky, with snowy ground in the background.

Tree, oil on canvases, 48x59cm, 2007

Classical painting of five nude women and one partially clothed woman, with lush landscape background, on what appears to be a shoreline.

Hermes, oil on canvases, 140x70cm, 2007

A black and white painting of a woman sitting on a floral armchair, surrounded by various abstract and realistic figures, including a man, children, and a woman, in an indoor setting.

Hockney, oil on canvas, 200x120cm, 2007
